Diary of the Drift [Journal de dérive] est un journal de bord urbain développé de 2005 à 2009 à raison de 54 images sélectionnées par année. Digressif et sans finitude, il est matière quotidienne à réflexion de la pratique artistique comme une sorte de relevé d’attitudes urbaines et autres pratiques marginales.
Avec Diary of the Drift, Mathieu Tremblin décrit une province plongée dans une paisible étrangeté et traduit un spleen que l’on ressent particulièrement en traversant les faubourgs des villes moyennes en chantier ou en destruction. Ce décor est propice au vagabondage : l’imagerie urbaine se développe sur le mode du comique de situation et compose une sorte de bestiaire où se croisent objets hybrides, personnages incongrus et autres signes graphiques de seconde main.

Diary of the Drift is an urban logbook developed from 2005 to 2009 including a selection of 54 images each year. Digressive and endless, it gathers a set of urban attitudes and other marginal practices and is a raw material for reflection on artistic practice in urban space.
Within Diary of the Drift , Mathieu Tremblin describes the province as plunged into a peaceful strangeness, translating a spleen that one feels particularly when crossing the suburbs of average cities under construction or in destruction. This context is ideal for wandering: urban imagery is developed in the manner of the comic situation and is gathering a kind of bestiary composed by hybrid objects, incongruous characters and other second hand graphic signs.
